Post subject: | I'm back, just can't build any longer |
I go back to the first days of this forum, but many now probably not around when I posted a lot. Due to extreme health conditions had to pretty much sell out my shop. I am going to hang out here some and if can be of any help on an issue will post thoughts again. I built and gave away (sold some also) and always was going to make one for myself, but those who say they are going to do that usually end up selling "the one" Now I am going to buy the stuff to make a kit, as I would rather do that than buy a on line kit from Stew Mac or LMI just because of woods going to use. I was able to golf and fly fish, but pretty much stuck in the house now, so going to learn to play more. Fingerstyle stuff. I am one of those builders who can only play about 5 songs. But a great teacher here in Branson who can come to house or I can Skype Will be buying parts in the classifieds as want to support builders and suppliers here. When do will need someone to thin out the back, top and sides. Will get a neck and block from a vendor, All I will be able to do is shape the braces and glue the parts together. First time I have had to go this route, so looking forward to a new experience. Folks take care of your health out there. I was drenched in agent orange over a few years in Vietnam and then don't think took the necessary precautions in mask and dust collection. Now probably on the road to heart transplant. So again, take the time to use the tools used to keep the air clean as possible in the shop and when using finish materials. SAFETY FIRST ALWAYS. Look forward to getting back to being active here. |

Good to see you back Stan. With your experience you will be a valuable resource. I am sorry about your health issues. Here's your first question. When you were working for Dale did you guys switch to CNC for carving archtop plates? |

Stan, I'm from the very early days of the forum as well, you were a great inspiration to me back then, along with Bruce Dickey, Joshua French and Steve Kinnaird. Good to see you around again, take care of yourself, you're one of the true greats. Colin |

Stan, I'm available to do some thinning etc. just let me know. My dad served in Vietnam. He's one of the 1600 or so unaccounted for. Sorry you were exposed to that chemical. Mike |

Thanks all. Hesh, I was giving David a hard time as political opponents. But he is one of the good guys, we just see things different. But respect the Hell out of him in this trade and his sticking to his guns (so to speak) Think first of all going to buy some X braces that have a tight fit. That is the problem with a lot of kits in my opinion from what I have heard the X braces are loose. I prefer them tight. |

It's always good to have the knowledge here in the forum so welcome back. And thank you for the reminder on safety. I think we always and constantly need to be reminded of it. I just sprayed some Nitro yesterday on an electric guitar body. I only spray outside but I brought that one in a bit early and when I got back into the shop it wreaked of out gassing nitro so back outside it went. Must always stay vigilant about safety in the shop. I hope you find playing the guitar as rewarding as you found building. It's good food for the mind body and soul. Here's to better health in your future. |

Sorry to hear about your health problems, Stan. I can relate a little bit to that. It is certainly hard to have changes forced upon you. It will be nice to have you weigh in here at the OLF when you can. |

Hi Stan, welcome back. I'm sorry to hear about you health. I remember you from back then. I use to make ukulele's but life threw me a few curve balls and I had to stop. Now I'm making my first uke in 10 years and trying to remember all I've forgotten. I'm glad to see you're a part of this forum again. If I can help in anyway with your build please let me know, it would be my pleasure. |
